My name is Crystal, and I’m a country girl by choice. I’ve lived in places ranging from a remote village in Alaska to a brick house in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I prefer it out here on Granddad’s homestead in the Oklahoma panhandle, with nothing around for miles.
For several years, I lived out here and pretended I just had a long commute to work. Just recently, I decided I wanted to get back to my roots. I grew up herding cattle and gathering eggs from our chickens. I played in the grain truck when it was full of freshly harvested wheat. (I had allergies, but that didn’t stop me!) I helped my parents in the garden. My hardworking husband grew up in a city, but we won’t mention that. My son prefers to play video games than go outside, but we won’t mention that, either.
I’m no expert, but I am pretty handy in a garden. Bindweed defeats me, but I grow fabulous produce. I’m getting better all the time at the country cookin’, and my parents (who conveniently live next door) are always ready to help me get the lumps out of my gravy. I sew by hand, but I still haven’t learned how to use a sewing machine. The rest will fall in place as it will. Won’t you join me on my journey?
